Crown Road Figure 8
Crown Road Figure 8
Crown Road (which is actually called Southern Marin Line Road) is a fire road that connects Kentfield to Larkspur. The road is very popular for hiking, biking, and dog walking but is a bit boring to travel from beginning to end. This figure 8 loop breaks the monotony of hiking out and back on the fire road itself but still hits all the high points of the area. There are great views from Blithedale ridge and nice terrain on the two singletrack trails that connect the two fire roads to each other.

A nice long loop between Kentfield and Larkspur. Crown Road is easily accessible and a very popular place to access Mt. Tam trails.

The trail starts at the end of Crown Road. It can be difficult to park close to the trail head on weekends, but there are plenty of spots up and down the road. Start on Southern Marin Line Road but take the first right turn up Hoo Koo E Koo Trail. Remain on this trail until the intersection with Blithedale Ridge where you will turn left and head down the fire road. When you reach the junction with three other fire roads take the sharp left turn and head down the trail back to Southern Marin Line Road. Follow the trail past the pump station (don’t make the sharp left turn). Continue along this road until the end where it becomes paved again. Go through the gate and take the right turn immediately following it onto Huckleberry Trail. This trail takes you back up the Blithedale Ridge. At this intersection turn right on the Blithedale Ridge Road. There will be another intersection with another fire road shortly following this. Remain on Blithdale Ridge by taking a right turn. The next intersection is the same one that you had been to before, follow the same trail down to Southern Marin Line Road (the fire road on the far right). This time when you get to the pump station make a sharp left turn. Follow this road all the way back to the trailhead.
